The Koenigsegg CCX super car continues on from the record breaking CCR which dethroned the famous MacLaren F.1 as world’s fastest production super car in 2005. Not dissimilar to Porsche’s 911 stable, Koenigsegg have deliberately avoided trends and simply honed the shape of the CCX with sharper lines and more aggressive styling. In 2007, the CCX was made fully compliant with emission and crash test regulations in the US making it one of the safest and greenest super cars in the world. Running on 91 octane fuel and receiving extensive engine management modifications, a new exhaust, cam shafts, cylinder heads and ignition systems, the car still produces a staggering 806 [email protected] yet meets Californian emissions requirements. The engine, mated to the six speed manual gearbox — a Formula One style paddle shift is optional — propels the car to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, reaching the standing quarter mile in 9.9 seconds and going on to in excess of 245 miles an hour. The car generates a whopping 678 lb-ft of torque at 5,700 rpm from its in house designed all aluminum cast engine block and is regarded as a bit of a Bugatti killer. Where other cars, like the Pagani Zonda and Lamborghini Murcielago use a wedge shape to perfect their function, the Koenigsegg CCX is a sculpted billow of curves and angles. From the wrap around windscreen and the long, low slung rear which houses that amazing engine, the award winning design looks like a muscled big cat. There is nothing retro about the materials from which the car is made from though. Pre-impregnated carbon fiber, Kevlar and aluminum honeycomb are used to create a semi-monocoque chassis, with a removable roof and some of the most gloriously engineered doors on any car — ever! Magnesium alloy wheels are standard, but carbon fiber wheels with ceramic disk brakes are optional, further reducing weight and stopping distances, which is an impressive 32 meters from 60 miles an hour. The CCX is light and nimble, weighing in at a mere 1,180kg in dry weight form. Compare that to a Pagani Zonda F which weighs 1230kg and the hefty Bugatti Veyron’s 1880kg. The CCX therefore has one of the highest power to weight ratios in its class, at 1.5 kg per horsepower. The suspension system is pure race derivative and features electronically adjustable ride height, fully adjustable gas/hydraulic shock absorbers, Le Mans spec wheel bearings and a tunneled diffuser at the rear of the car to eliminate dirty air at high speeds. Traction control is now standard increasing drivability in adverse weather. The Koenigsegg’s interior is quite unique in that there is plenty of room for taller drivers, whom many super cars struggle to accommodate. A further enhancement to driving is the unique central dial which incorporates speed and rev limit information, eliminating the need for multiple dials. It allows for faster eye adjustment between the road and dial, up to 50 % quicker than standard configurations. The materials from which the instrument panel is constructed from are derived from aeronautical technology reducing glare and aiding clarity. The carbon fiber seats are designed with the help of Sparco and Koenigsegg’s own test driver, are now fully padded, aiding in driver comfort. The rest of the interior has plenty of leather and aluminum composite, all of which is highly customizable according to customer tastes and of course wallet. Expect to pay well over 600, 000 USD for a fully equipped model, which can include personalized luggage, sequential gear shift, reversing camera and almost any body work colour.Sources:www.rsportscars .com www.koenigsegg.com www.carb odydesign.com www.digiads.com.a u Category:Home › Autos • Will the trend toward economy-size car models lead Americans back to buying smaller-sized cars? — part 2 • You should never use after-market auto parts when maintaining or fixing your car • Should a new car be rust-proofed? • Will the trend toward economy-size car models lead Americans back to buying smaller-sized cars? — part 1 • Five safest cars in North America • How to ensure your teen drives safely after getting a license • Pros and cons of using an hydrogen generator for your car • DIY automotive maintenance: How to change the oil
